Health Promotions Program

Join CARECEN SF’s Promotoras de Salud to increase healthy eating and active living while exploring how culture and tradition improve community health.

Increase healthy eating and active living, all while having fun!

Promotoras de Salud/ Health Promoters facilitate peer-to-peer and hands-on learning in a linguistically accessible, fun and welcoming environment. All of our weekly community health promotion activities are based on a popular education model that combines science with the cultural assets of the families we partner with. By engaging in community building and peer-to-peer dialogue, we share ideas and activities aimed at preventing and managing chronic diseases that disproportionally affect our communities, including diabetes, obesity and early childhood cavities.

You and Your Family Can Access:

  • Cuerpo Sano workshops
  • Cooking classes
  • Dance and movement classes
  • Early childhood literacy classes
  • Monthly Cuerpo Sano family field trips
  • Dental screenings and fluoride varnish treatments for children birth to 5 years
  • Nutrition and exercise workshops
  • Community building activities and peer support groups

All of our health promotion activities are FREE and in Spanish and English

Who Can Participate?

  • Parents, children, youth and the entire family!

New Curriculum from Promotoras de Salud

Our team of Promotoras de Salud are committed to providing their communities with the latest health information and best practices, encouraging healthier lifestyle choices that improve overall health and wellbeing. CARECEN SF’s Promotoras de Salud are also tireless leaders and advocates who work to lift the voices and experiences of their communities through their work as part of the Mission Family Resource Collaborative, Language Access Network of San Francisco, Voz y Voto Collaborative, and many other joint efforts across the City.

The Promotoras have been developing over the last six months a new and innovative health and healing curriculum. It will creatively combine healthy cooking, arts, and the exploration of the immigrant experience to sickness, healing and wellbeing. Through the expertise and leadership of our team of Promotoras, they have designed the curriculum that creates a safe space for community members to reflect and share how their health has been affected by being immigrants to the U.S. We will let you know when this curriculum is released. Stay tuned!

The curriculum is made possible by funding from the Community Health Equity and Promotion Branch of the SF Department of Public Health.
