On October 3, 2018 our community of supporters and allies came together to celebrate the life and legacy of Archbishop (and soon so be Saint) Oscar Arnulfo Romero as well as to celebrate the work of CARECEN SF and the individuals who have helped us realize our mission.
It was a beautiful early morning gathering with delicious coffee (provided by Cumaica Coffee – artesanos del cafe) and tipico Salvadoran breakfast (provided by Sunrise Restaurant).
We were serenated by singer/songwriter Francisco Herrera as we honored one man’s life that has inspired the work of CARECEN SF and our greater activist, socially conscious and justice seeking community.
We are still in awe of the Love and Support expressed on this wonderful occasion. Special Recognition Awards were given to Rev. Deborah Lee, Tessa Reoverol Callejo and Father Richard Smith, Ph.D. Our awards also included our current team member Nancy Castro (Ricardo Calderon, Sr. Employee Excellence Award) and past team member Metzi Quetzal Enriquez (Special Recognition Award). Mission artist Josue Rojas also presented his original work of art “El Cielo Por Sombrero” (acrylic on canvas 2018) commissioned by CARECEN SF and inspired by San Romero.
Our founding team member Ricardo Calderon, Sr. will be representing CARECEN SF in the Share Foundation’s Delegation traveling to Rome to join the thousands of Salvadorans who will be attending the Canonization of San Romero.
We want to thank our Board of Directors, our hard- working staff, all those who attended and all the individuals who continue to support CARECEN SF even when they could not attend the event. We thank you for continuing to be our ally! There is still much work to be done. We hope that you continue to support us and consider making a donation.
¡Muchas Gracias!
