Paralegal — Immigration Legal Program

Karina is the daughter of Mexican and Salvadoran immigrants who met in San Francisco, where she was born and raised. As a member of Mission Girls and Boys and Girls Club, Karina showed an interest in social justice and human rights from an early age. She attended University of Redlands in Southern California where she got her B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology and a Minor in Public Policy.

Over the last 5 years, Karina worked as a legal assistant and advocate at Mission Action (then, Dolores Street Community Services). There she assisted people who migrate with limited resources, many who were recent arrivals to the U.S., prepare their defensive asylum cases and help victims of crimes apply for U and T Visas. Beyond that, she worked on advocacy campaigns for clients in immigration detention with the support of partner organizations throughout the Bay Area.

Now at CARECEN SF, she continues to work with clients in removal proceedings, as well as those with affirmative cases such as TPS and Adjustment of Status. In her free time, Karina likes to take dance classes at Mission Dance Theater and spend time with her family and friends.”
