Dr. Raul Gutierrez is a community pediatrician at San Francisco General Hospital and serves as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco. With nearly 20 years of clinical experience, he specializes in immigrant health and co-founded and co-directs the BRIDGES clinic, a multidisciplinary team dedicated to a holistic and community-supported approach to wellness for recently immigrated children and their families. Additionally, Dr. Gutierrez is co-director of the Center of Excellence for Immigrant Child Health and Wellbeing at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals. He serves as the pediatric lead for the UCSF Health and Human Rights Initiative, providing pro bono psychological and medical forensic exams to support children’s immigration relief cases. Dr. Gutirerrez currently chairs the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Immigrant Child and Family Health. As director of the Pediatric Leaders Advancing Health Equity (PLUS) program, he trains residents at UCSF in leadership and community engagement skills toward health justice. He has interpreted for patients at a free clinic in college, worked with migrant farm workers in Michigan, and now advocates for asylum-seeking families in the Bay Area of California. His advocacy work is an inspiration to us all. He actively serves resilient communities that deserve to be seen and valued. He has always found inspiration in his abuela’s journey and carries her strength as an immigrant woman with him daily.
