Maria Tapia

Case Manager/Peer Educator — Second Chance Youth Program & Tattoo Removal Clinic

María is the daughter of Mexican immigrants and was born and raised in San Francisco’s Mission District. As a youth she became active in a number of youth development programs such as Mission Urban Arts which inspired her to pursue a career in community work. She began her career at CARECEN SF as an intern. Through this internship she was exposed to CARECEN SF’s Legal services, where her mother was able to receive residency assistance. After some time, Maria then transitioned to a Peer Educator role where she facilitated young women’s support groups. Subsequently, Maria’s hard work, dedication and ability to connect with young people lead her to become a Case Manager. Maria holds a Community Mental Health Worker Certificate from City College of San Francisco. Maria is currently continuing to pursue her goal as a future Mental Health Specialist.
