Kathleen Coll is an anthropologist whose research and teaching focuses on immigration politics, citizenship, and grassroots community organizing. Prior to joining USF’s Department of Politics in Fall 2014, she taught at City College of San Francisco, Stanford, and Harvard Universities. Kathy was born and raised in San Francisco, attended public schools K-12, including bilingual education at Junípero Serra Elementary in Bernal Heights. She became active in Central American solidarity and church-based Sanctuary movements as a student in the 1980s. As an organizer for the Committee for Health Rights in Central America in the 1990s, she participated in the Northern California Coalition for Immigrant Rights, where she met the founding members Mujeres Unidas y Activas, who later sponsored her dissertation research project, and on whose Board she served from 2007-2013. We are happy to have her be part of our Board of Directors.
