Jose Daniel Hernandez

Second Chance Youth Program & Tattoo Removal Clinic Director

José was born in Los Angeles, California and was raised in the Bay Area by Hondureño parents. He was the first one of his family to be born in the United States. José graduated high school in 2004, received his B.A. in Latin American Studies from UCLA in 2010, and received his Master’s of Public Health in Community Education from SFSU in 2019. José began working with young people since he was a teen himself, from summer sports camps, after school and pre-schools programs, job training for youth, running a school-based health center and case managing young people in San Francisco. While at SFSU, José dedicated his studies to critically analyzing the criminalization and incarceration of young people through a public health lens. Seeing and experiencing the struggles his parents overcame and of his family currently in Honduras, José is dedicated to working with young people and their families in sharing tools to support them in being successful on their own terms. In his spare time, José likes to figure out what he is going to do when he grows up.
