Health Promotion Program

Join CARECEN SF’s Promotoras de Salud to increase healthy eating and active living while exploring how culture and tradition improve community health.

Increase healthy eating and active living, all while having fun!

Promotoras de Salud/ Health Promoters facilitate peer-to-peer and hands-on learning in a linguistically accessible, fun and welcoming environment. All of our weekly community health promotion activities are based on a popular education model that combines science with the cultural assets of the families we partner with. By engaging in community building and peer-to-peer dialogue, we share ideas and activities aimed at preventing and managing chronic diseases that disproportionally affect our communities, including diabetes, obesity and early childhood cavities.

You and Your Family Can Access:

  • Early childhood literacy classes
  • Nutrition and wellness workshops
  • Oral Health Education workshops
  • Community building activities and peer support groups
  • Special events including field trips to San Francisco parks

All of our health promotion activities are FREE and in Spanish and English

Who Can Participate?

  • Parents, children, youth and the entire family!

New Curriculum from Promotoras de Salud

Our team of Promotoras de Salud are committed to providing their communities with the latest health information and best practices, encouraging healthier lifestyle choices that improve overall health and wellbeing. CARECEN SF’s Promotoras de Salud are also tireless leaders and advocates who work to lift the voices and experiences of their communities through their work as part of the Mission Family Resource Collaborative, Language Access Network of San Francisco, Voz y Voto Collaborative, and many other joint efforts across the City.

CARECEN SF’s Promotoras de Salud are currently operating on a hybrid model, offering some workshops virtually and others in person. We have shifted our workshops during the COVID-19 pandemic to focus on the following: parent-child interaction and early literacy, parent education, and support groups. Our workshops incorporate health topics including nutrition, oral health, child and youth development, emotional well-being and self-care.

Families living in San Francisco with children under 18 can participate. Registration is required in order to participate in workshops. To register, please call 415-872-7465.

The curriculum is made possible by funding from the Community Health Equity and Promotion Branch of the SF Department of Public Health.
